Swords are used to fight hostile mobs that try to kill you. They inflict more damage that any other thing ( maybe except bows).The crafting recipe is shown above. These are some mobs that are hostile:

Essential blocks to survival

Chests are good to store items that are very important, so if you die, you can get them back just by touching the chest. This is useful when you die and need a sword. You just go to your chest and get the sword that you put inside it just in case!

Crafting tables are by far the most important blocks in Minecraft. You use them to craft, or make, stuff like tools(pickaxe, axe, hoe, bow, sword, ect...), some foods ( cake, golden apples, and cookies), and other useful stuff like furnaces or chests. There are a lot of stuff you can make in a crafting table.

This is used in many ways. One example is charcoal. You use it to make torches or as fuel in the furnance. You take a gold ore and put it in the furnance,you get a golden ingot, that is useful in many things. You can also make stone, by putting cobblestone in a furnance. the most useful function of the furnance is cooking meat! that way you wont starve.
